A man accused of raping his teenage daughter was nabbed by border patrol this week as he tried to re-enter the country illegally near El Paso, Texas.
According to WKRN-TV, citing a report from the border patrol, Rusbel Zamorano-Calderon had previously been charged with three counts of felony rape of his 15-year-old daughter in Tenneessee.
Border agents were patrolling the grounds Tuesday near the Ysleta Port of Entry, about 14 miles south of El Paso, when they came across sets of footprints. They followed the footprints and came across a group of people entering the country illegally. Zamorano-Calderon, who is a Mexican national, was among the. The group was taken into custody.
After Zamorano-Calderon was fingerprinted and questioned by agents, it was discovered that he was wanted in Polk County, Tennessee for rape charges against his daughter. He had previously been deported, before charges were filed. There is also a restraining order issued against him, ordering him to stay away from his daughter.
“This most recent arrest serves as another prime example of the importance of maintaining vigilance along our nation’s borders, and the important role the Border Patrol Agents play in helping keep our communities safe,” the U.S. Border Control said in a statement.
Zamorano-Calderon will remain under arrest in El Paso, but he will be eventually extradicted to Polk County to be processed and face trial.
