Actress Amy Schumer, the niece of Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer, was arrested in the Capitol Building a short time ago, as she was protesting Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Schumer was one of dozens of protesters inside the building who refused Capitol Police demands to leave, the arrest was caught on camera and can be seen below.
Some media outlets say Schumer was merely detained, but in the video, she is asked by Capitol Police if she wants to be arrested. She answers “yes.”
Also arrested was model and actress Emily Ratajkowski, who was protesting with Schumer. Ratajkowski confirmed her arrest on Instagram.
Nearly 300 protesters were among those arrested.
Earlier, she told a group of protesters saying “A vote for Kavanaugh is a vote saying women don’t matter.” Schumer has been outspoken in her criticism of Kavanaugh’s conservative views, especially on abortion.
