An illegal immigrant has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of Mollie Tibbetts.
Tibbetts disappeared July 18 after she went jogging. Her body was found in a corn field near Brooklyn, Iowa, and the identification confirmed her death earlier today.
Investigators in Iowa announced at a news conference Tuesday afternoon that 24-year-old Christian Rivera (pictured above) was charged with first-degree murder in Tibbetts’ death.
Rivera is being held on an immigration detainer, and has been in the country illegally for between four to seven years.
Officials say security cameras from neighbors caught video of the suspect’s car, allowing them to track him down.
Social media is already responding to the arrest.
Mollie Tibbetts was violently, permanently separated from her family and now an immigration law-breaker is in custody.

The suspect, when confronted by authorities, confessed that he began following Tibbetts as she jogged.
She then pulled out her phone and threatened to call police if he didn’t stop following her. Instead of being scared away, he chased her down and kidnapped her.
Additional details, including how Tibbetts died, is known.
This is a developing story.
